Last weekend was a busy one for us - with three fantastic weddings in a row. On Friday evening, we were playing for the wedding of Mr & Mrs Leslie at Melville Castle in Midlothian. The wedding took place in a large marquee set up in on the castle lawn and the mixture of ceilidh dancing and disco went down well. A lovely touch in the foyer was a picture frame with little hearts that guests could write messages on for the bride and groom, and then put into the frame as a memento of their special day.
On Saturday we were at Rosslea Hall Hotel in Rhu, just outside Helensburgh on the West coast of Scotland to play for the wedding of Mr & Mrs Belshaw. This is a venue that we haven't played for in some years but is in an idyllic spot right by the sea. The venue supplies an in-house DJ as part of their wedding package so we were playing the ceilidh for the first part of the night. The dancers seemed to have a lot of fun and we rounded the ceilidh dancing off with an Orcadian Strip the Willow.
Below is a clip of the Virginia Reel from the ceilidh - with Michael Haywood leading on the fiddle for this set of tunes which comprises of -
Bowing the Strings
Waiting for the Federals
Franks Reel
Orange Blossom Special
Trip to Windsor
On Sunday evening we played for another wedding, this time back in Edinburgh, in the Mansion House at Edinburgh Zoo. This is a venue where we play quite frequently, and although quite a warm evening, the guests took to the floor for a good session of traditional ceilidh dancing
